CBSE Class 10 Two Board Exams: What Students Should Know

CBSE & RBSE Board Guides 1 min read

From 2026, CBSE Class 10 students can take board exams in two phases in a school year. The idea is to reduce pressure and give a second chance to improve.

How it works

  • Phase 1 is held in February and is mandatory for every student.
  • Phase 2 is held in May and is optional, for students who want to improve their scores.
  • In Phase 2, students can improve in up to three subjects from Science, Mathematics, Social Science and languages.
  • Internal assessment is conducted only once during the academic year.

How to plan

Treat Phase 1 as your main exam and prepare fully. If a subject goes below expectation, use the weeks after the results to fix weak chapters and attempt Phase 2 with a clear plan.

Do not use Phase 2 as an excuse to prepare less. Strong basics make both attempts easier.

Rules and dates can change, so always confirm the latest circular, schedule and registration steps on the official CBSE website (cbse.gov.in) or through your school.

Parents and teachers can help by keeping the focus on learning, not fear. Two chances should reduce stress, so encourage steady study through the year.
